San Giusto a Rentennano
COUNTRY: ITALY
REGION: TUSCANY
SUB-REGION: CHIANTI CLASSICO
San Giusto a Rentennano stands among Chianti Classico’s most revered and cult-status estates, where history, terroir and meticulous organic farming converge. The property began life as a medieval Cistercian monastery in the southernmost reaches of the appellation at Gaiole in Chianti, and has been in the stewardship of the Martini di Cigala family since 1914. Perched on hillsides of mixed galestro shale, alberese limestone and tuffaceous clay, the estate’s 31 hectares of south-facing vineyards benefit from warm days tempered by cooling nocturnal breezes, producing fruit of intensity, balance and minerality. Certified organic since 2006, the team practices green harvesting, hand selection and minimal intervention to articulate the full character of the site in every bottle.
Among its most acclaimed wines is Percarlo, a 100 % estate-grown Sangiovese cuvée that has repeatedly earned the very best acclaim, including regular 96–100 point scores from Monica Larner and Antonio Galloni, for its rich fruit, structural poise and remarkable depth, making it one of Tuscany’s benchmark expressions of the variety. Equally distinguished is Vin San Giusto, the estate’s organic Vin Santo, with vintages scoring 96–100 points from both Wine Advocate and Vinous Media thanks to its nuanced dried fruit, spice and lingering texture. Then the estate’s classic Chianti Classico Riserva Le Baròncole, has also attracted notable praise, becoming a benchmark of elegance and reinforcing San Giusto’s status as a producer of precision, depth and enduring quality.
