COUNTRY: ITALY

REGION: UMBRIA

Cantina Bigi has its roots in Umbria’s historic winemaking landscape, beginning in a former Franciscan monastery in Orvieto after 1870 and moving to modern cellars in Ponte Giulio in 1972. Its own vineyards (c. 145 ha) are on hilly clay soils (150–450 m elevation) in the classic Orvieto zone, where warm days, cool nights and gentle breezes support well-balanced white varietals (Trebbiano, Grechetto) and increasingly interesting red Sangiovese-based wines. Bigi blends centuries-old tradition with contemporary winemaking — stainless-steel temperature-controlled fermentations, barrel ageing and careful vineyard management — to produce wines that are expressive, texturally refined and regionally precise, from crisp Orvieto Classico whites to nuanced, terroir-influenced reds.
