Perdeberg Wines
COUNTRY: SOUTH AFRICA
REGION: PAARL
Perdeberg Wines was established in 1941 at the foothills of Paardeberg Mountain in the Paarl wine region, drawing its name from the mountain zebras (“perde”) once mistaken for wild horses by early settlers. Vineyards span 3,000+ ha across Paarl and neighbouring Swartland with varied soils — decomposed granite, shale, clay and alluvial mixes — and a range of altitudes that create diverse mesoclimates. The warm, Mediterranean-influenced climate with cooling afternoon breezes moderates ripening, while unirrigated “dry land” bush vines produce small, concentrated berries with intensity and freshness. Perdeberg’s portfolio spans Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinotage and Grenache, with vineyard-specific cuvées that balance ripe fruit, structural depth and mineral tension reflective of Paardeberg’s distinctive terroir.
