COUNTRY: GERMANY
REGION: MOSEL
FEATURES: VG
S.A. Prüm is one of the historic names of the Mosel, with the Prüm family’s connection to the vineyards of the region stretching back centuries. The modern estate was established in 1911 by Sebastian Alois Prüm, continuing a family tradition deeply rooted in the villages and steep slate slopes around Bernkastel and Wehlen. Today, S.A. Prüm’s vineyards encompass some of the Mosel’s most celebrated sites, including Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Bernkasteler Lay and Graacher Himmelreich. These steep, slate-rich vineyards benefit from excellent sun exposure and the moderating influence of the Mosel River, creating Rieslings defined by purity, fine acidity, mineral character and an exceptional balance between fruit and freshness. The estate remains focused on expressing the individual personality of each vineyard, with traditional, carefully judged winemaking allowing the character of the site and vintage to remain at the forefront.
The wines demonstrate the remarkable range and longevity that Riesling can achieve in the Mosel. The S.A. Prüm Bernkasteler Lay GG 2020 brings together the concentration and structural precision of a Grosses Gewächs with the mineral energy of its steep slate vineyard. The Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese 2016 offers a more opulent expression, balancing ripe stone fruit and sweetness with the site’s characteristic acidity and finesse, while the Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett 2020 captures the lighter, more delicate side of the vineyard, with vibrant fruit, floral lift and refreshing precision. Together, they showcase S.A. Prüm’s ability to translate some of the Mosel’s most distinguished terroirs into wines of elegance, clarity and remarkable ageing potential.
