COUNTRY: PORTUGAL

REGION: VINHO VERDE

Quinta da Calçada dates to 1917 and is one of the classic estates of Vinho Verde, with origins in a 16th-century manor house now part of the winery’s identity. Its vineyards (50+ ha) in northern Portugal are planted primarily to Loureiro and Alvarinho on granite and schist soils that promote bright acidity, floral aromatics and saline tension, crucial to the Vinho Verde style. The region’s cool Atlantic climate with abundant rainfall ensures slow ripening and crisp freshness. Calçada produces both still and sparkling wines that are precise, aromatic and refreshing, capturing the Vinho Verde terroir’s hallmark zing and mineral complexity, while also extending into other Portuguese regions with versatile, terroir-responsive whites and rosés.
