Monteverro
COUNTRY: ITALY
REGION: TUSCANY
SUB-REGION: MAREMMA
Monteverro is a modern Tuscan success story that has rapidly earned international acclaim, blending meticulous vineyard management with a deeply rooted respect for terroir and organic viticulture. Established in the early 2000s on the radiant limestone and red clay soils of Capalbio, the estate is overseen by Julia and Georg Weber. From the very beginning, winemaker Matthieu Taunay has shaped the estate’s distinctive style, while Michel Rolland’s 18 years of consultancy left a valuable technical and organizational legacy, enriching the cellar with expertise that continues to enhance the estate’s elegance and precision. Taunay’s meticulous approach in both vineyard and cellar, combined with his sensitivity to site expression, defines the estate’s elegant structure, purity of fruit, and refined balance. Certified organic since 2019, Monteverro’s vineyards benefit from Mediterranean breezes off the Tyrrhenian Sea, cool nights, and well-drained soils, producing grapes with natural acidity, aromatic intensity, and structural balance.
Production remains limited by design, with careful parcel-by-parcel vinification ensuring quality and detail are never compromised. This commitment has culminated in an extraordinary recent run of accolades, including three perfect 100-point scores from Decanter, honouring vintages of the estate’s flagship Toscana IGT Monteverro and Rhône-inspired Tinata — a remarkable achievement that underscores the winery’s place among Italy’s elite. These older vintages, now available, reveal superb complexity and, with the benefit of bottle age, show enhanced nuance, layered texture, and tertiary character, providing an exceptional tasting experience that fully reflects the estate’s terroir and meticulous craftsmanship.
