Grgich Hills Estate was founded in 1977 by Miljenko “Mike” Grgich and partner Austin Hills in Rutherford, Napa Valley, shortly after Grgich’s Chardonnay triumphed at the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, marking a watershed for California wine. The estate pioneered 100 % estate-grown wines, farming all vineyards organically and biodynamically and achieving Regenerative Organic Certification — one of the few in the world. Rutherford’s warm, diurnal Napa climate with well-drained alluvial and gravelly soils produces ripe, concentrated fruit with balanced acidity. Grgich’s wines — particularly Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and other Bordeaux and Rhône varietals — are known for structure, finesse and longevity, marrying Old World restraint with New World ripeness. Vineyard emphasis and minimal intervention allow terroir clarity and food-friendly balance.
